Merry Xmas O.T.
I googled Kogan and opened one of the resulting windows...I followed the prompts for making contact and there was a panel at the bottom of the window showing a chat option. When I started to chat, I got several responses wanting more particulars - which I obliged. Then the message that they would connect me to an "expert". this was then when they asked me for the refundable $2.00 and a form to fill in with all my card details etc.
I have since sent an e-mail to their customer care section setting out my problem and have received an automated reply saying they'll be in touch 'shortly'.

I think most of us are aware of this type of event but I'd not heard of Lock My PC so this may be handy...

Some of the scams are so close to reality it would not be hard to be convinced it is the real ting . it is very hard to pick as a lot of the legitimate one can look like scams

That is quite true that scammers can emulate legitimate websites and people can phone you with a convincing story about who they are and why you should give them details.
However NO legitimate business will want control of your PC or your device. That is just plain crazy and should be obvious to all.
If the genuine Oz government Cyber Police Unit wanted remote control of my PC they could get stuffed. They would be welcome to visit me and inspect my PC whilst I sit next to them. But remote control is just not required and any request should be a red flag to everybody.

I received that message a couple of weeks ago and deleted it. I did think about it for a minute though.

From day one I have steadfastly refused to use the cloud for anything and never will. Trust nobody

About an hour ago there was a message on my wife's mobile phone from RACQ bank saying that her card had been compromised and to ring 131905. I deleted this message. This is a card that has never been used and the phone number is correct. I rang RACQ on a different phone and checked if this was genuine. Yes they told me there had been a number of cards compromised and a new card has been issued. This is never going to stop is it. Barry
