You have to question everything that comes in unexpectedly now don't you OT. I've had a few different ones in the last few months, becoming normal to block the sender and delete it now.

Yet another scamming method...
A new employment scam is targeting job seekers on social media - here's what you need to know
In these tough economic times, we know that some of our members are probably thinking of returning to the workforce, with some already looking for any job opportunities that might come up.
And while there are plenty of genuine businesses and organisations out there who are looking to hire new employees, unfortunately, there are also some scammers who are taking advantage of people's vulnerability.
Job seekers should be wary of a new employment scam that has been spreading online.
Fake job opportunities, which offer jobs with hourly rates ranging from $48 to $75 at well-known retailers such as Kmart and Bunnings, have been popping up on Facebook.
It was reported that many hopefuls have responded to the ads, giving out their personal information such as their bank account numbers via the messaging app WhatsApp, in hopes of getting the job.

I received an email today supposed to be from a friend in Vic. Their email address starts with a combination of the wife's first name and their surname followed by @ yahoo .com.
This email had the first part as normal but from @ a different address. I thought maybe they had changed email address but when I opened the email it was an add about weight lose and The Shark Tank tv show, scrolling down there was a place to click to take me further, I did not click but deleted the email.
I rang them to let them know that their email address had been compromised somehow by someone. My friend then told me that he had $400 taken from his Westpac account recently. It was not from online banking or buying. It was from using his card at a shop somewhere and his details obtained by person unknown.
Westpac refunded his money and also warned him to not use phone for banking as they have paid out millions in refunds because of scammers.

Quite a few friends get emails seemingly from me, as in bazza's case the first part of the email containing my name is correct but the @ is incorrect It all stems from a yahoo breech a number of years ago The emails never have a subject title and are always just a link I've told everyone that I never send an email without a subject title and never send just a link without relaying what it's about I usually know when people are gong to contact me to tell me they're getting them again as I start getting the same thing from "my son" and "Alan" a friend of mine who were 2 of the other 10000 people caught up in it

Got a Text from AGL saying that I have an overdue account and directing me to an 'official' looking website for details..the amount was $8.35.. whichwas possible as I have recently changed energy suppliers away from AGL and have been getting final settlement bills...Didn't make much sense so contacted AGL on their chat line and after the usual pre-amble etc. found out it was a scam ...AGL had never sent me the text.
So much of this going on now...it's bloody scary..I reckon these XXXXholes will ruin our whole on-line economy.

I had a phone call on my mobile yesterday from " visa card " telling me that $900 had been charged to my card and to press 1 for security. I disconnected the call.
It sounded very genuine so some people would be fooled.

I bought an appliance from Kogan the other day..when it arrived it was missing warranty documentation..I decided to use the chat window option on their website and, would you believe, that they wanted a payment of $2.00 - refundable -to proceed a conversation with an "expert"...a form window appeared for me to fill in with all my credit card details etc. etc. needless to say I didn't oblige - will be attempting to contact them by phone.
Is their no end to the number of criminals trying to rob us?

Jock,
Are you saying that was a shonky Kogan site or the genuine one wanting to charge you for a chat?
I just logged into my Kogan account to check and it insisted on sending a 4 digit pin to my email before it would let me in. That is a good security enhancement since my last login
Anyhow, once in I could not find any Chat Window option.
