My wife tested positive 6 days before Australia Day. I tested negative at the same time, which is hard to explain. She said she felt just "a bit off" for a day or so and thats why she got tested. I went along for the ride. We are both triple vaxed. The day after Australia Day we both tested negative so we're free again! Just in time to go away in our caravan for a couple of weeks.

Well Australia Day is nearly upon us again and I am a very proud Australian. If you claim to be from Oz and are competing in anything to do with sports - I will back you!
Now I don't want to get into any discussion about what it means to different people, but if there is anything that brings a lump to my throat, it is the following song by Judith Durham and company. Read it and see if you can not stop singing it -
I am Australian
{Verse 1: Mandawuy Yunupingu}
I came from the Dreamtime
From the dusty red-soil plains
I am the ancient heart
The keeper of the flame
I stood upon the rocky shores
I watched the tall ships come
For forty thousand years I've been
The first Australian
{Verse 2: Russell Hitchcock}
I came upon the prison ship
Bound down by iron chains
I fought the land
Endured the lash
And waited for the rains
I'm a settler
I'm a farmers wife
On a dry and barren run
A convict, then a free man
I became Australian
{Verse 3: Judith Durham}
I'm the daughter of a digger
Who sought the mother load
The girl became a woman
On the long and dusty road
I'm a child of the depression
I saw the good times come
I'm a bushy, I'm a battler
I am Australian
{Chorus: Durham & Hitchcock}
We are one
But we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a dream
And sing with one voice
I am, you are, we are Australian
{Verse 4: Russell Hitchcock}
I'm a teller of stories
I'm a singer of songs
I am Albert Namatjira
And I paint the ghostly gums
I'm Clancy on his horse
I'm Ned Kelly on the run
I'm the one who waltzed matilda
I am Australian
{Verse 5: Judith Durham}
I'm the hot wind from the desert
I'm the black soil of the plain
I'm the mountains and the valleys
I'm the drowned and flooding rains
I am the rock
I am the sky
The rivers when they run
The spirit of this great land
I am Australian
{Chorus: Durham & Hitchcock}
We are one
But we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a dream
And sing with one voice
I am, you are, we are Australian
{Chorus: All}
We are one
But we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a dream
And sing with one voice
I am, you are, we are Australian
We are one
But we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a dream
And sing with one voice
I am, you are, we are Australian
I am, you are, we are Australian

Although I wasn't born here, I was only 5 when we migrated here from the Netherlands in 1954, I became an Aussie citizen (officially) as soon as I was old enough. I've never been back, although it would be interesting I admit, but I have chosen to explore this wonderful country instead. I am very proud to be an Aussie and couldn't think of a better place to live.

As Gerry, I wasn't born here either, came in 1967 as a12yo, I became an Australian citizen 5 years later with the family and I joined the RAAF 2 days later I too have never been back choosing to spend my time exploring this huge country When we visited the Bungle Bungles and were at cathedral gorge, a group came in and the leader got an ipod and speakers out and I shuddered to think he was about to break the ambiance of the place but then he played Ave Maria softly, it was amazing to hear the acoustics of that place but then when that finished, a man from the group, stood under the arch and sand that song, he didn't have a pitch perfect voice but I must say he did better than I could do, I'm getting good bumps just thinking about it as it was one of the most wonderful experience of the trip, everyone joined in on the chorus

I have been back, but when I asked my father if he was interested in going back for a visit, he said:
"If it was any good, I never would have left"

Had my fourth birthday on MS Johan Van Oldenbarnevelt. Now there's a coincidence Gerrym, that's the same ship that we came out on.
