As I mentioned in my “always happen in threes post” I had my front window shade blown away. Now my van is 17 years old and it has the old Camec Galaxy windows and it is not easy to find a new shade or a second hand one. I did find one second hand shade but was the wrong size and there are dozens of sizes so would need to be lucky to find one. My original shade cost $160.00 in 2006 and a new shade will cost $317.00 via Caravan Plus in Canberra. I have placed an order which could take up to 90 days before it is delivered. Camec has a service to fabricate this item. Next problem is the decal that we had on the shade so checked my records and found the company that made the original coat of arms decal. They are still in business and they had my coat of arms stored on their computer records and could print one out no problem. From my shopping around, it became obvious that the front window shade is a common item that can get damaged or fly off so it is good idea to check the shade clamps are secure when heading of into the great outdoors. You are fussy JR worrying about having a decal... but lucky that they kept yours on file
Those shields, front and rear, are on our depart check list. The front one is always of most concern.
When I close them I whack the locking clips home with a closed fist and then do up the adjustable stay lock-nuts so tight (with my fingers) that my wife sooks when she can't open them.

I fixed mine once and for all. I had the front window removed as it was always a potential water leak source. I must say though, that I had never lost a shade, but mine had a crack, and the stays were rusted and difficult to tighten.

There is no doubt these Galaxy front windows are not really suitable to be mounted on the front and at an angle. I remember thinking hard and long would I fit a front window knowing the leaking problems they have at the front. I thought as I was fitting it I would make sure it was sealed well but that is not the issue it is the way the window drains from the bottom that is one of the main issues unless mounted vertically. Took about five years of mounting extra rubber and adding a water trap on the inside of the window before I can say no more water problems. JR

Yes did try the Central Coast Dismantler and they did have one but wrong size, they even sent a photo. I tried two caravan dismantlers in Melbourne, even one at Nabiac plus a couple of others. I have now placed an order through Caravan Plus.

My Golf Linwood never had a front protector shield. Just a Seitz double insulated window, It's never leaked ,I think it must be the way the Fibre glass front was molded as the boot protrudes out then as you go higher it has raised sides and the windoow is sunken in.
