Everyone is probably aware that the Luxury Car Tax was introduced to protect the local car manufacturing. The local manufacturing ceased, but the tax did not. So every dollar over a certain threshold attracts a 33.33% tax. When it was introduced, pretty well all the vehicles that an average Joe bought were below the tax threshold. With sticker price of vehicles increasing faster than the LCT threshold was, a lot of average the Joe's are now paying LCT. This article explains the new direction the government are going, which will end up costing more people this tax by tying it to fuel efficiency. If you are going to tow a caravan, the vehicle you will need will never be able to reach the required efficiency. Currently, the popular vehicles used to tow will be Toyota's, Ford's Nissan's and Landrover's. The utes(all commercial vehicles) are currently exempt now, but for how long come July 1st 2025. I put this up for information only, as there is not much any of can do to stop saving the environment. www.drive.com.au/news/federal-government-doubles-down-on-luxury-car-tax-despite-calls-for-its-axing/Please don't turn this political, as both sides of politics would have their own version of ways of extracting money from the public for the good of the environment.
