We've had one of those handles in the car for a number of years, when Brenda's back was really bad she often needed it to get out of the commodore It hasn't been needed in the 4WDs we've had

I think the main point here is the glass-breaker is built into the car.
It doesn't have to be procured and can't be lost.
Also I assume there are 2 of them?
Only one window needs to be broken to allow the car to flood and permit the doors to be opened.

You could use the old steering wheel locking bar. it was also good as weapon if you got attacked.
Cutting the seatbelts is a another story.
