Here is my little mate who follows me everywhere. We do not think we will have him for much longer as he has a heart murmur that was found by the vet last April but has got much worse. He is thirteen and three quarter years old. We got him from the RSPCA as a rescue dog when he was three years old and he bonded with me straight away. Until about two months ago he has never been more than a few metres from me, he has always kept me in sight. He loved his caravan trips. Now with his health problem he just stays in his bed most of the time and looks at me with a sad look to his face watching me go outside without him. We are just keeping him comfortable for his last few weeks / months that he will be here. Off to the vet again this afternoon for a check up. He will be missed greatly when the time comes. Barry

Enjoy him as long as you got him.
It's a sad thing, but pets don't last as long as we do

Yes, you can only care & love them for as long as we have them, unfortunately as Hans says, we don’t have them long enough. 😢.

Barry, had a reverse happen a fortnight ago.
A bloke up the road had just been given the all clear from his oncologist when my wife presented him with a picture of 13 going on 14yo Charlie.
Charlie would pull the hairs out of his back while staying with neighbours when Mike was in hospital.
Any how, Mikes daughter found him deseased at the kitchen bench with Charlie by his side, one morning, but the lights were on.
So it seem that Charlie had been there all night with Mike.
But enough time for Charlie to process that although Mike has left him, he did not desert him, as his hair is growing back

It is a sad day for us today, we are having our little furry friend put to sleep at midday. He has been having breathing issues for a few weeks and getting worse so we do not want him to suffer. Very hard decision for us but best for him. He will be missed. We are both 80 this year so will not get any more, as we do not know how our health will be in the future and if something happens to us it would not be fair to a dog if we leave him behind. It will be strange for me as I have never been without a dog as far back as my memory goes. They are wonderful companions. Barry

G'day Bazz, sad day for you, they tear our hearts apart when they go but the memories we have of they last forever We made the decision a couple of years ago when we had to let our Jazz go that we wouldn't have anymore dogs for the same reason as you, one it's unfair to the dog if you do leave them behind and in our case the financial cost is to much I've heard of an organization called seniors for seniors, senior dogs who been left behind by their owner passing or moving to full time care needing a home you may only have them a couple of years but they at least get someone to love them in their final years, apparently the organisation looks after medical bills Only something I heard of a while ago and I have no details but you may want to look into it For now we have our son's 2 German shepherds with us as he's moved back in Cara and Koda Cara is 12 and a 1/2 and we think may not be with us when we get back from our trip away Koda is 4 and a 1/2 and a fully trained security attack dog, but that's only when she's on the lead, in her harness the rest of the time she's just like any other dog except she's mad with a ball, stick, rock, anything you can throw

I have elected to not go through the emotional turmoil again.
Look after the Grand-Dogs every now and then.
Sorry for your loss Barry.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. It was strange this morning as I usually get up between 5 and 6am, get dressed and washed then let my little friend in and give him breakfast before I have mine. He then lies beside me as I have mine and waits for me to give him a corner of my toast.
Not this morning, it was a lonely breakfast for me. Now we have all this dog stuff to give away, leads, beds, food, coats, toys etc. Our daughter is coming over to take some for her dogs today so hopefully half will be gone.
We will cherish the memories we have of him.
Barry
