My internet provider is IINET and they are going to stop having emails and I would like to change to a free email service. Annoying because of all the notifications we will have to send to companies that have had our email address since the 1980's.
Looking to change to either GMAIL or Yahoo for our emails. Any info good or bad for these would be appreciated.
Thanks
Barry

I have several Gmail addresses and find the service excellent. All of my devices are synched, so I can see my emails from them all. I also use Google calendar for the same reason as well as using Google cloud storage for all the photos and files I save on my phone and tablets.

Baz,
Best thing to have is your own domain name but hosting is around $150/year.
I have several domains (1 hosted) and you can have as many email addresses as you wish.
I have a few Gmail accounts and I find their presentation style a bit annoying and their security measures too rigid. Frequently when I log in using a different device or from a different place I have to prove who I am. That may suit those where security is very important. Gmail account options are vast and perhaps complicated for those who want bare-bones emails.
Of course Google will know all about you.
I know nothing about Yahoo.

G'day Bazz, we've had a yahoo email for years and other than a serious security breach on Yahoo a few years ago where our email was compromised (it was easily fixed, except our name is still used with different addresses to people who were on our contact list at the time) it's been good That is our main contact email, I also have a gmail address I use for contracts such as Netflix, and another throw away one for when I fill in competitions, Brenda also has 2 gmail addresses All addresses are diverted to our yahoo so we don't need to check different places for mail

Thanks everyone, I have watched tutorials of Gmail and set up an account. I have even managed to surprise myself by sending my emails from IINET to my new Gmail account.
Now to learn to use it.

I am paid up until April next year for my iinet email.
Is the email address you are using **********@iinet.net.au ?
Regards Gerry

Gerry if you are using iinet webmail, on the log in page under the box that has your username and password, there is a red band about 15mm high going across the page. In this band is written about emails stopping. Click "learn more" and you will go to the link I have here. help.iinet.net.au/iinet-email-messaging-companyIf this does not work go to google and search ---The Messaging Company --- and follow the instructions for iinet. If you want to keep using this service you will have to transfer by next month or you will stop getting emails about November. Then in 12 months time you will have to pay. I decided to leave and have gone to gmail. Barry

OT that would be way past my computer skills. Thanks anyway.
Jeff I never knew that duckduckgo had an email service, thought it was just a browser. Learn something every day.

I don't know if they improved over time, but I gave iinet the flick many years ago when they bought out Adam Internet and their customer service all but disappeared. Their service levels also declined quite markedly. No issues with google ever since then.

It has given me the push to finally dump my iinet email, which has been leaked by various means including the Optus Hack.
Just need to go through any important contacts and advise of a new email address.
A number of years I (really OT) set up a few emails that I have since added to.
Just about every company I deal with has a unique email or forwarder assigned, so that it is immediately obvious if something isn't genuine.
Here is the iinet response, so far:
"Hi
Sending you the details about more information of your email and the changes that was made. What does this mean for customers? 1. To keep using their email address, customers will need to opt-in to transfer their mailbox to a third-party email provider, The Messaging Company. 2. Customers will not lose any emails, contacts, or calendar events as part of this transfer. 3. If customers do not opt-in to transfer their service, their email addresses will be suspended and ultimately disconnected. Who is The Messaging Company? 1. The Messaging Company is an email hosting provider that specialises in providing accessible, secure, and reliable cloud email services for telcos and service providers. 2. After the transfer is complete, The Messaging Company will be responsible for hosting, maintaining, handling enquiries, and billing customers' email accounts. What email addresses are affected? 1. All TPG Telecom-branded email addresses (e.g., @iinet.net.au, @tpg.com.au, @internode.com.au, or @westnet.com.au) and subsidiary mailboxes.

I have just finished four days in front of the computer notifying various company's and contacts of our email address change. Also had to put all contacts into new contact list one by one as they did not transfer over. Some file fault came up.
Don't want to be doing this again.

I switched to a Yahoo email address many years ago. Having an independent email address allows you to easily switch internet providers without having to advise your contacts of a change of email address. Some of my family use G-mail with no problems, too.
