Since we left Melbourne on July 1st we stayed at 6 van parks before reaching our house sit at Charters Towers.
As we moved further north from Melbourne the net speeds dropped. They could be OK or even quite good at 0600 but throughout the day and especially the evening the speed often dropped to sub-ADSL levels
Here at Charters is the same. Can exceed 40 megs very early then drop to 1 tenth of that or less.
The problem is obviously an inability to cope with traffic, just like a busy highway.
No doubt streaming accounts for a large evening demand and I've technically HATED the concept ever since it was introduced.
Nothing could be technically dumber than not using a single TV transmitter to simultateously feed millions of users but instead having a personal data path to each of them individually but all sharing the same single very crowded transmission path

Same here at 80 mile beach. Two bars of 3G plus the parks Wifi and lucky to do anything at all. Early morning and tea time OK, just, the rest of the day is a struggle to even get emails.
EDIT. This one just made a liar out of me 🙄.

Last night it was consistently around 1.5 megs = truly pathetic
This morn at various times...
1000 = 3 megs 0730 = 27 megs
0540 = 73 megs This clearly demonstrates the effects of traffic.

In Cooroy in the hinterland of the sunny coast we had crap wireless internet, but being rural we have gone to Starlink, anywhere from 50 to 200 Mbps. Can have stream and do work on the computer. Not cheap but unlimited but it works well.

No problem here OT you can trust us to behave hehehe
I only use the phone as a hotspot so sometimes internet is slow, quite often it's non existent, when that happens I'm free to make a campfire and enjoy the country I'm in, sometimes I'm glad to have no internet and just sit and watch the birds or especially the stars at night I've even given up on taking the laptop with us and just use the tablet

Here in the park at Hazelmere WA we are 1.5k from the nearest Telstra tower and it is basically unusable. Speeds as low as 0.01mbps. Bit the bullet when Starlink dropped the hard wear price to 50%. Very useable internet plus streaming if we want to watch a movie. Also use wifi calling as it was impossable to use the phone inside the van.

Thanks Mick
Yes, it is a good service from what I hear. The problem is trying to compete with the cost of our needs.
Boost mobile (100% Telstra area coverage) was 100gb/year at less than $13/month. It has now gone up to $19.19/month but annual data also up at 170gb
Even the older 100gb/year was much more than we ever use.

Boost mobile (100% Telstra area coverage)
That's what everybody says but our son's partner got a teaching contract in the APY lands 120km north of Nullabor, she's been with boost mobile for a couple of years but up there, nothing, no reception at all, she had to get a Telstra card, boost did not work She got rid of Telstra as soon as she got back

Frank,
Are you sure she has Boost and not Belong?
Belong is a cheaper Telstra service but it does not cover the remote areas.
