Rather than take another thread off track, I have started another here in general discussions.
OT brought up the fact he had bought something on Temu. This site has had a lot of ads recently as it attempts to break into the online market. There have also been a few warnings about the site, being based in China, and possible risks involved.
The items for sale on Temu seem to be very cheap and maybe just as introductory offers but what I am interested in is people's experience in purchasing from Temu, and the risks one might be exposed to.
I have used Aliexpress quite a few times and I have no reservations about continuing to do so, but I am not so sure about Temu. Maybe it is because it is new. What is your experience and / or thoughts?

I haven't used Temu, but have been bombarded with their ads. I generally use ebay exclusively and try to choose sellers with a 90% or better satisfaction rating. I also rely on Paypal as my preferred payment method as there is an ability to claim if things go wrong... needed that once and Paypal was great. If Temu uses Paypal I'd give them a go, but I haven't looked, so dunno? I'm interested to hear others' experiences.

I often use Aliexpress.
With any online deal I'm always very cautious. In the TEMU case I would have instantly given them the flick if they didn't offer PayPal.
For a PayPal purchase of less than 4 bucks I didn't worry at all about TEMU's reputation. This will be a test case with losses minimised and I may even make a profit
I typically gave TEMU one of my 'throwaway' email addresses and this is the order email back from TEMU...

Good to know they use Paypal. Might even have a gander myself and see what they have to offer. 😀

Purchased one of these washing machines of Temu last week it arrived via Australian Post and was on time. I paid with PayPal. Temu were advertising these machines on Facebook for $5.00 if you were a firsttime buyer and downloaded the Temu App so I did. The machine is really only worth $5.00 but usually are around $50.00 to $60.00. Yes, it will wash some soaks and undies but that’s it the spin dry is useless and that was part of the attraction (spin dry). JR

I have bought a few things that interested me from Temu. No probs and ok mostly. Great service and quick delivery.
A cheap battery tester was not worth the plastic but I could not see any point in sending it back. Turned out to be a cheap imitation of a cheap imitation....
I bought some elcheapo high mag reading glasses for the shed too. Seldom used but handy.....

Thanks for the input. I won't write them off just yet, but I don't need anything for the moment.

Ok, I put in an order so we'll see what happens. A couple of annoyances though. Spend $20 and get $85 credit... yep providing you spend a couple of hundred. So I spend $21 and go to the checkout - sorry, minimum spend is $30. I reckon I'll stick with ebay.

My less than 4 bucks purchase was expected by Temu to arrive by Jul 24.
It arrived 1 day late on Jul 25 which probably wasn't too bad from China to Charters Towers
Anyhow today TEMU came good with their promise and credited my account with 5 bucks

OT how did you manage a $4 purchase? I went to spend $21 and it wouldn't take me to the checkout unless I spent at least $30.

Gerry, I am buggered if I know how
The first time I visited TEMU there was no minimum purchase value, hence my $3.78 worth of fuses with free delivery and now a $5 credit
I assumed it was a first-sale sweetener?
Today I tried the usual tricks to be another person, like connecting via 4 different browsers (often an ID beater) using TOR, using my wife's laptop to change MAC address, using a VPN to change IP address and finally connecting to the net via different phone to change the connecting device.
All methods failed and came up with the $30 minimum.
Perhaps this is the problem?
If you thought IP address is the only way websites can detect your devices online you are in for a real treat!
The online world has become smarter and scarier in the nick of time. Websites are now easily able to identify your device using something called browser fingerprinting which are special scripts to collect detailed information about their visitors for remarketing purposes.
These scripts may contain details such as timezone, device language settings, browser in use, IP address, and more about a user.
This means simply using a VPN or proxy will not help your device to do undetected from a website.
