That was a great approach to what I now consider a sensitive subject. It can be so easy to stick it to people when they are oblivious to all these complex rules. Not everyone has engineering backgrounds, let alone the ability to quickly comprehend all these rules. There have been enough bun fights on the web as to where to get the information let alone understand it.
Well done to the Police involved and everyone else who had a hand in it.

For those who don't know, Goomeri is on a Qld back road with not much traffic, so I would suggest the Police etc were not over worked. It is great that they were there, though, but a better place to do it would have been on the Bruce Hwy that southern state caravanners use every year to get away from the cold. glanyard

They probably picked that particular spot for 2 reasons IMO 1 they would have been far too busy on the Bruce and not have time to spend talking to the vanners
2 those on the Nruce are probably wise to such "operations" as there have been a few in Vic and in NSW, and those on the back roads may be trying to "escape" the law

Interesting that it was an information exercise, not revenue making Mate, it might've been an investigative exercise..... to determine whether it would be financially viable to set up actual checking stations. What's that? I'm being cynical? Nah....

Similar operations have been conducted here in Vic on several occasions without a single infringement notice written. I'm sure many of you are aware of that and of the Police Officer who pushed his idea to fruition. He is to be applauded, well done Graeme. Let's not be too cynical huh

Perhaps I should have used the 'tongue-in-cheek' emoticon Lance as I do think it's a good idea.

I reckon "Actual Checking Stations " would be called weigh bridges.
And first off the police ought to go over the vans in the new van sales yard.
Then slap a huge sign on each van telling prospective owners that they can actually only load in a litre of milk as the thing empty is already at its limit.
Who is selling the vans at a bare weight, and not including Gas, water, twin batteries, and a 12o kg awning any way.
A new purchaser thinks he has 350 kg of stacking room, and it just ain't so.

You're absolutely right Paul It should not only be left to the end user to comply, the supplier AND manufacturer should be liable if their product doesn't comply when it leaves the show room

Came through Goomeri about three weeks ago and there were quite a few vans there and also driving through. We used to regularly (yearly) go through when my parents in law were alive and there were always several vans parked up. After all it is on the A3 and can be quite busy.
