How much fuel does a ship burn in an hour? “Emma Maersk” is a large container ship built in 2006 which can carry about 11000 TEUs (Twenty-foot-equivalent container units). It is powered by a Wartsila Sulzer RTA96-C 14-cylinder diesel engine, the largest single diesel unit in the world. The engine delivers a maximum power of 108,920 hp and a maximum torque of 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102 rpm. It has a total cylinders displacement of 25,480 L. The thermal efficiency of the engine is over 50% at maximum economy. At economical speed, the engine consumes 1,660 gal of heavy fuel oil an hour.

I'd like to see the Green's solution to replacing these cargo ships with green energy. It would take a bit more than a few solar panels and a bunch of Tesla batteries. LOL
