We connected to NBN in 2019 and have continuing problems. Internet and phone drop outs. Last year during Feb. and March it was bad so techs from NBN and iiNet came out and did tests, replace modem, all ok sort of until two weeks ago. Same as last year, same results with techs, change modem, did not make any difference.
I am sick and tired of making calls and being on the line for up to an hour while tests are done. Where do you find someone who knows what they are doing ? Waiting for iiNet to send another tech out to try and solve this. We have FTTC NBN and I think there is a problem between the curb and the modem.
I did look at going to FTTP but we have to go to a higher plan and that is about $45 extra per month, so forget that, fix this.
Anyone else have these problems ?

Have you been to the ombudsman? They are very effective. Document all your past problems and use that as you work through this page Problems with your service.

Thanks spaceland I never thought of that. But I must admit that iiNET does try to fix the problem, just that no one has been good enough to find the issue. I will give them another try before contacting the ombudsman.

The resellers like iiNet often have problems with NBN. The ombudsman generally gets those sorted out.

I am on fixed wireless NBN and never had any issues.
With your FTTC using existing copper wires, presumably old Telstra wires, who is responsible now for wire issues?

I had been with them for about 13 years for ADSL.
In our Carina home it got that bad that we couldn't even use internet banking, because it would time out.
First time I rang them they had me unplug everything so they could run tests, to save me paying for a tech in case it was my equipment.
After that, I told then on the next few times, just send a tech an I am happy to pay if it is my stuff.
The crunch came when trying to update AVG antivirus. Would start at 10 minutes to download, then extend to something like 3 hours to download.
Eventually when it got to 5 minutes to finish it would drop out.
Thought it just need a top up of data, but no. The whole process would start again, and drop out.
A daughter happened to turn up and said log onto my mobile. Task completed in 2 minutes.
So rang iinet and told them to cancell my subscription. They replied that they could find a solution.
My reply was that unless the Bulimba Exchange has moved or they were lying in the past nothing could be done as my house hasn't moved and the distance to the Bulimba Exchange would be the same.
Real problem i believe, was the number of dodgy joints between my place and the exchange.
There is a limited number of times they can shorten the wires and make fresh joints before there is no slack left in the cables.
Have been Wireless ever since.

Hmm I had not thought of going to fixed wireless. I was thinking of connecting to the fibre as we can get FTTP but I read about people having drop outs on that so might be no better than FTTC.
OT I am not sure who is responsible now but I could always run a new cable from the street if it fixed the problem. The old cable is about 30 years old. I will find out.

Yes we can't get Nbn to our individual homes in our village as the owners of the village have there own system and cables and they tap into the nbm.Nothing but issues so I bit the built and brought a starlink Satellite system.Works very well in our semi rural setting,anything up to 200 mps.Also I can take the thing with me in the van.Mind you the gear cost 450 as is on special at the moment but the monthly fees are up there,$139 per month unlimited.

We have the same problem every year, when we have had a bit of rain down it goes. We have FTC, rhe junction box is in our driveway and it is still slow in the wet. When in the old days before the NBN i had a peek down the hole. All the copper wire joined together with cheap insulation tape. Yeah NBN

I still say the whole NBN debacle was completely out of touch with emerging technologies. Why would you invest billions on running fibre optics all over the country when the same, or better can be easily delivered by satellite and/or wireless?
If they'd invested in something like Starlink back then, the coverage would have been 100% of the continent with no black spots at all. These wireless systems will ultimately take over and all that physical network will be obsolete!
They were told that right at the start, but there's too many snouts in the trough making potentially squillions, so all the advice was discounted and ignored.
That's my take on it anyway...

I have hybrid fibre coax system for NBN as my house was once wired for the old Telstra internet system and they didn't remove the coax when I cancelled. I have no problem with iiNet. I was using mobile broadband for 2 years with a Nighthawk M2 with very high speeds but it had a data limit and was expensive for more data. Optus and others are offering unlimited data with 5G mobile data now but, even though I have 5G service on my phone at home, none will agree to connect me to 5G mobile broadband. The best I've been offered is 4G mobile broadband with unlimited data but capped at 25mbps.

I reckon using only sat NBN is a "all eggs in the one basket system". Next week when china uses North Korea to spearhead an attack, the first thing to be disabled is going to be the sats that you may rely on.
So pre record all your judge Judy bits while you can....
