Rotated tyres including the spare which has never been used. Also greased the grease niples on the leaf springs and hitch, checked the roof winder mechanism, cables and cable tensioners. Noticed one eye slightly open...will keep eye on that, but just to be safe will get four spares from Bunnings. Also bought and fitted a new door lock as the original lock was getting a bit hard and was worried about the tongue breaking at some stage, so will keep the old one as a spare.

Mousey I dont reckon Bunnings will have a John Guest style fitting. 12mm airline fitting will do the job and be a lot better.

Still looking Mick she couldn’t find one at Bunnings & I lucked out at work. Probably thinking might put a olive on it like a air line. Was a bit busy last week & busy today.

Was going to suggest Queensland Diesel Spares, I see they are now owned by Maxitrans.

HI mousey, I saw this on travelers and tried to reply but I mucked it up. Its always good to DIY and you did well. What I would like to point out is that it is a better job to not use those female to iron plastic fittings. Reason being that the cant take the pressure long term and split or explode as yours has demonstrated.
If you get a brass socket and teflon it onto the tap first, then you can use a male iron adapter to screw into the socket. The fitting will have a tapered thread and not be at risk of stress.
What you have done will always get you out of trouble and is ok, but it may well let go in the long term. Of course you can just sit back and have a beer as well.

Hi Mousey, As Tojo has said those female JG fitting fail, I have had two fail like yours. What Tojo posted is the way to go but go one better and fit the JG brass fitting the same as the plastic one. Only takes a few days to get one delivered from Caravan Plus.

12mm air fittings work even better, better quality plastic fittings.

Went out and cleaned the ledge of the pop top.[/div] Never happened before but when I washed the van with the top down I used truck wash a bit richer than normal. Then two weeks later went to put the top up, and the thing had vulcanized itself to the base with a rubber seal that runs all around. That was a heavy lift I can tell you. I realised what it was right away but It still forced me to go out and check I hadn't left the clips locked. I know some water splashed on it would have helped bu we are in a nice dry garage by that time. Its a long narrow reverse to get in that garage. Another 60 feet to go backwards from this point.

DT, do you get the van down the driveway with your vehicle (in reverse or forward) or use a hand/electric mover? Not much room for error. 😲

Archer do you mean 50 mm which is 2 inches or 500 mm. I have around 130 mm or 6 inches each side due to the clearance lights on the left looking at the van, and then the roll of the annex makes that side look larger. I can back up with mirrors
nsgnomad I can back up with mirrors On a good day but have to close the mirror on the driver side due to wall fittings in the house. I once tried a bar on the front but it was no good as you have to really be able to see both sides. of course the left is then out of view. I get a crook neck at times so I installed a caravan mover.
I imported a pair of Truma caravan movers and fitted them myself. These things are hard to beat and I have a remote controller it is the only on that operates on a single axle and can push 2.5 ton. Most vans require a four motor system to push that amount of weight.Driving out is no problem as I am used to getting the van pretty central.I came a bit to close to the house once coming out but I backed up with no problems a metre and it was no problem. Takes getting used to though.
I tried to help a member on the friendly forum once and stated that my mover was very helpful. All I got for my trouble was that if I couldn't back a van etc. I ought to stay home. I could taste the self righteousness on that gents breath.
The van needs the jockey wheel in place of course to do a move. It has been handy on bush sites to get into tight spots using a couple of ply boards. When folks come later and ask how the hell I got in there I just tell em' I had no probs backing in. If I can't back in to that spot I will stay home....
