About a month ago I posted that I lost the front window protector on my van and as a result I now have spent four days in hospital with four fractured ribs and a collapsed lung plus a couple of other things. I am blaming the window protector as it could not have been my stupidity could it! I clean the top front of the van by standing on the top of the gas bottles. When I get down of the gas bottles that I stand on to clean the front I use the small top edge of the window protector which protrudes about ¼” above the protector frame to hang on (with my fingers) while I lower my foot onto the drawbar over the stone guard and then step the other foot over and then step onto the ground. Well with no window protector I needed to lower my foot onto the wet drawbar about 6” with no support and as my foot hit the drawbar it slipped off and I then fell basically from the gas bottles over the stone guard to the concrete ground and landed on my back, it was not pretty. I believe it will take about six weeks of discomfort for recover. Looks like I will not be cleaning the front of the van by standing on the gas bottles any more. JR

So sorry to hear of your injuries JR. I hope you have a speedy and as pain free recovery that is possible.
You are getting too old for these capers mate.
Don't you know that the reason your eyesight fails as you get older is so that you can't see the dirt on the front of your van and therefore don't have to clean it!

Good grief JR
What a big price to pay for a wet footing
I probably won't help you feel better but I've been in hospital for 9 days, so far.
In all honesty I cannot shift the blame to our caravan as I had a leaky heart valve so clearly my fault for improper maintenance of a human body.
To fix it meant slicing it open and turning me into the 6 dollar man
May we both get well soon JR

I hope you both get well soon.
JR, did you just get the thought that you shouldn't be doing this, a nano second before you fell.
That's how it normally happens to me. Now for the dressing down from Mrs JR when you get home.

JR, initially, my comment is'ouch', but I guess you already said that. More importantly, Hope you recover speedily. You too OT.
P.S. you do realise, don't you, that dirt on a van is a badge of honour. Mine's getting quite a dusting right now.

Oooh dear Jr, I do exactly the same when I need to do something on the front of the van, luckily I don't have a stone guard to contend with Lucky in a way your leg didn't get caught up between the stone guard and gas bottle, or it would have been your head that hit the concrete and you'd have hung there till the wife came looking I won't say don't do that again because I know how stubborn we men are so I'll say please be careful
OT do as the doctors and nurses tell you and take care as well

OMG OT, Leaking hart valve sounds like you have had a rough time hope they can correct the problem and you will be ready to head off this winter. You are lucky the problem was diagnosed. Gerrym, I did know I was taking a risk before I made the stupid move, but my next move was call the wife and ask her to get our small set of house steps, yes I knew it was wrong. When they ask you in hospital questions like do I have steps at home and have I got a “power of attorney” and so on, it starts to make you realise you are getting old. JR

Jees JR I never knew that window protectors were so deadly. I hope you have a speedy recovery and before you wash the van again take a trip to Bunnings and look at stepladders, they were invented for what you want to do. All the best. Barry

It a wonder OT didn't sort the valve with some Grinding Paste.

I wouldn’t be surprised if OT has a spreadsheet on his heart rhythm.
