Mick,
Have you checked out my suggestions?
Do you have an ex-lease return deadline looming?

Havnt had a chance as yet. I have about 3 weeks up my sleeve. I do use an external drive for 90% of my stuff, its more the odd photo and email that I want off it.

Got it all sorted thanks, Old Techo. Had to do a manual delete on all the files that were on it.

Thank you Graham and I just wish you were my wife
Mick, you mentioned emails. Are you using MS Office Outlook (resident on your laptop) for emails? If so the email files will be where you probably haven't looked yet.

No, I use Mailbird and it is gone. Thanks again for your help.

Yep making a copy as you go is the way to go. My son doubled the Hard drive and my computer now does it automatically. It cost a few dollars more but when things go wrong the relief is much more palatable than the stress of losing your gear.

Go to Settings > Update and Security > Recovery. On that page you will see several options. Then select Reset this PC. When you run this you will get a choice of keeping your data. read about it here - Recovery options in Windows 10
